It’s been some time since I communicated and set up meetings in our area. This past year saw several additional responsibilities in my personal and professional life and the time I had committed to you as your representative was taken up. Now, entering the final year of my board service I wanted to recommit myself to developing outreach and supportive opportunities to you.
I am looking for meeting space and time for two types of professional groups.
- Regional meetings for NASW-Michigan members. This group will meet at the appointed evening time for approximately an hour and half. The purpose of these meetings will be for local networking and professional development, educational opportunities with CE credits and updates from the local and national NASW offices. This will also provide members with a chance to communicate their opinions, thoughts, questions and suggestions for me to take back to the NASW Michigan office.
- Private Practice networking meetings. These meetings are intended for both solo and group practices as a way to learn more about colleagues in the local area. Meetings will focus on specific issues of private practice, resources and information available to members and the development of professional referral database to allow for the sharing of referrals to social workers who specialize in specific areas of treatment.
In trying to learn from the last 2 years as your board representative I believe having monthly meetings was too much for many professionals. As those previously arranged meetings often had low participation I am hoping this new format will meet more of your professional needs. I am envisioning regional meetings to meet 1-2 times maximum at any given location. Meetings will be spread out across the 9 county area as locations are available. Private practice meetings will be defined by those who attend each meeting to address the local needs of private practitioners. Some sights may elect to meet monthly while others only quarterly. Now, in order to make this success I need help from members. If you and your agency are interested in continuing to develop on a professional level as a NASW-Michigan member please contact me by email or phone. We will look at dates for meetings through June of 2014.
Please remember you can commit to only one meeting if that fits your availability. This is a great way to introduce your agency to other social workers and to learn more about the resources in your area. If you are interested in either or both of these types of meetings but cannot offer space please let me know so I can work on finding locations in specific areas where members are looking for a meeting. The type of meeting and your general area will help me identify where to focus.
I can be reached at email@example.com and 269-240-8042.
